Why Promethia

Promethia was founded on a simple observation: the ordinary course of schooling is no longer enough for families who want something more — and that something more has a name.

The Founding Conviction

Most schools teach boys what to think. Promethia teaches boys how to think — and then holds them to it. The difference is not a matter of curriculum alone. It is a matter of culture: what is expected, what is praised, what is tolerated, and what is not.

Classical education is not a nostalgic exercise. The great books are not great because they are old. They are great because they ask the questions that still matter, and because reading them carefully — arguing over them, being changed by them — produces a kind of mind that no survey course can replicate.

Promethia is secular. It draws on the full breadth of the Western tradition — Greek, Roman, Christian, Enlightenment, and modern — without confessional commitment. Families of any background will find the curriculum serious and the culture coherent.

Intellectual Seriousness

We treat ideas as consequential. Arguments are made and answered. Opinions are earned.

Physical Discipline

The body is not separate from the mind. Training it is part of the curriculum, not a break from it.

Character Formation

We are forming young men, not credentialing students. The habits of virtue are built slowly, through expectation and example.

Honest Community

A small school is a place where everyone is known. That is a demand and a gift. We take both seriously.

Graham Gormley, Founder

Graham Gormley has spent his career thinking about what education is for and what it too often fails to do. Promethia is the result of that thinking — a school designed from first principles, not assembled from existing models.

He invites families who share this conviction to begin a conversation. Not an application. A conversation.

The next step is a conversation.
